Ultimate 5 Minute Recipes: Chilli Cheese Toast

How many times have you been craving something super cheesy and spicy but have no time to come up with a complicated dish to fulfill you cravings? Well, here's a solution. This super easy Chilli Cheese Toast recipe can please the snobbiest of cheese lovers.

With an ingredient list that is accomodating of replacements whether you want to upgrade the cheese or use a pre-sliced one for convenience and very simple steps, this is an ideal recipe for beginners and experts alike!

This recipe is super simple to make and can even be dorm-friendly if you have a sandwich maker or grill machine in your dorm. After all, who doesn't want something this delicious in the middle of study or work breaks? Or even on a 3am fridge raid? So let's get started!

'Suggestions' are a feature I try to include in my recipes to make sure it is accessible for everyone. You can use the alternate ingredients mentioned in Suggestions to swap out things you may not hae available to you for easier to find options or even upgrade it to a finer ingredient as per your taste.


2 Slices of White or Brown Bread

1/2 Chopped Bell Pepper (Capsicum)

1/2 Chopped Tomato

1/2 Chopped Onion

1 Chopped Green Chilli

2 tsp Hot Sauce

(Suggestions: Red Chilli Sauce, Schezwan Chutney, Sriracha, Hot Garlic Sauce any Chilli based sauce should work, if you have none at hand check out my homemade Chilli Sauce Recipe on the blog!)

2 Cheese Slices or 1/3 Cup Grated Cheese

(Suggestions: American Cheese, Mozzerella, Cheddar, Processed Cheese, Pizza Cheese or Gouda)

1/2 tsp Oregano (Optional)

Salt and Pepper to taste

1 tsp Butter for greasing

Get Inspired

  1. In a bowl add all your chopped vegetables and mix them up. Make sure they are finely chopped.

  2. Take a bread slice and generously apply a layer of chilli sauce on it. Layer your vegetables on top of the sauce to make sure they stay intact in the sandwich.

  3. On the other slice of bread add your cheese and sprinkle your dry spices on it. Now add this slice on top of your chilli sauce slice and press them together firmly.

Cooking option 1:

Heat some butter in a pan on medium heat and cook the sandwich for 1-2 minutes till golden brown on both sides. Slice and enjoy!

Cooking option 2 :

Butter both outer sides of the sandwich and cook in a sandwich maker or griller until golden brown. Slice and enjoy!
